Martin Sztacho from NICR presented his research findings at the long-established international symposium “Biological Regulation and Enzyme Activity in Normal and Neoplastic Tissues”, held on 5–6 October 2026 in Bologna, Italy. His lecture on the molecular mechanisms underlying the organisation of the cell nucleus attracted considerable interest from the international scientific audience.
Organised by the University of Bologna, the symposium has a history spanning more than sixty years and is regarded as a prestigious scientific meeting in the field of biomedical research. It is characterised by a select group of invited experts, which has included Nobel Prize laureates in previous years. This year marked its 67th edition.
Martin Sztacho leads the junior research group Laboratory of Cancer Cell Architecture, established within NICR at the Institute of Biochemistry and Experimental Oncology, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. In his lecture entitled “Nuclear compartmentalization is mediated by RNA-dependent interactions between phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate and intrinsically disordered proteins”, he presented research findings on the molecular mechanisms involved in the spatial organisation of the cell nucleus.
The findings presented sparked discussions about opportunities for new international research collaborations. Participation in this selective scientific forum not only represents significant recognition of the research conducted within NICR but also helps strengthen the Institute’s international visibility and scientific reputation.
