Students of the Christian Doppler Grammar School in Prague discussed the molecular basis of cancer development and the diverse daily life of a scientists in the Czech Republic with Martin Sztacho.
Martin Sztacho, head of the Laboratory of Cancer Cell Architecture at the Institute of Biochemistry and Experiemntal Oncology, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and NICR, accepted an invitation to Winter Day with Scientists, which traditionally takes place at this grammar school before Christmas, on December 18, 2025.
About fifty students had the opportunity to learn how subtle changes in delicate cell structures can trigger a fundamental breakthrough in the life of a single cell—one that can gradually lead to cancerous behavior with consequences for the entire organism. At the same time, they discovered that research does not only involve experimentation, but also teamwork with talented colleagues, presenting results, writing publications, raising funds, and continuously educating both oneself and others.
We would like to thank the Christian Doppler Grammar School for the invitation and all the students for the inspiring discussion. We look forward to future cooperation! 😊
