New insights into the metabolic mechanisms of tumors and their therapeutic targeting were the main theme of the 4th Prague Symposium on Cancer Metabolism, held under the auspices of the National Institute for Cancer Research on October 14–15, 2025, at the Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, in Motol.
The symposium, organized by the CLIP – Metabolic Study Group of the Second Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, brought together more than 60 experts from research institutions, universities, and clinical centers. The two-day scientific program offered a wealth of stimulating lectures and discussions focusing on new directions in cancer metabolism research.
Among the keynote speakers were Prof. David Sabatini, who addressed the role of the mTOR signaling pathway in cancer processes, and Dr. Arkaitz Carracedo, who presented new findings on metastatic prostate cancer. In addition to international guests, Czech researchers also presented their results, focusing, among other topics, on metabolic adaptations of tumor cells and possibilities for their therapeutic modulation.
The meeting also provided a valuable opportunity for direct interaction among researchers, clinicians, and students — fostering open scientific discussion, exchange of experience, and the establishment of new interdisciplinary collaborations.
The symposium was followed by the 4th Workshop on the Analysis of Mitochondrial Respiration of Cancer Cells using the Seahorse Analyzer, held on October 16, 2025, at the BIOCEV center and attended by 17 researchers. The workshop program focused on the practical use of advanced technologies for assessing cellular metabolism and on data interpretation in metabolic analyses.
