We would like to invite you to a lecture by Dr. Mina Popovic from Belgrade, in which she will present two novel hafnia strains from common carp as potential probiotics with biodegradation capabilities of microplastics.
We would like to invite you to a lecture organized by Dr. Martin Sztacho, Head of the Laboratory of Cancer Cell Architecture, Institute of Biochemistry and Experimental Oncology, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, which is part of NICR. His invitation was accepted by Dr. Mina Popovic from the Union–Nikola Tesla University, who focuses on isolating bacterial species from various environments and studies of their significance for human health.
Ongoing environmental pollution and the accumulation of microplastics in aquatic ecosystems create conditions that favour the growth of bacteria capable of degrading this material. In the presented study, Hafnia alvei UUNT_MP41 and Hafnia paralvei UUNT_MP29, species rarely isolated from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of Cyprinus carpio, were assessed for their probiotic activity, antibacterial activity and their capability of biodegrading microplastics.
The lecture will take place on June 4, 2025 at 13.00 in Cori Lecture Hall, First Faculty of Medicine, U Nemocnice 5, Praha 2. More information HERE.
